Jamalpur police have arrested five individuals, including a prominent Jubo Dal leader, MB Shuvo Pathan, in connection with an attack on a private hospital, gunfire at a political office, and extortion activities in the city. Police reports confirm that the suspects were carrying firearms, two pistols of which were seen in CCTV footage from the day of the incident. Authorities plan to seek a 10-day remand to recover the weapons.

The arrests were made on Sunday night, in a hotel located in Dhaka, with police confirming the identities of the individuals involved during a press briefing held at the office of the Police Superintendent on December 23. The detained suspects include MB Shuvo Pathan, a former Jubo Dal secretary; his associates Ripon Hasan Hridoy, Masum Mia, Raju, and Jhuton Mia, all of whom are residents of Jamalpur city.

According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of November 28, when an altercation over a vehicle passing by escalated into a violent confrontation in the Sardarpara area of the town. Shuvo Pathan, along with his followers, including Hridoy, Raju, and Masum, allegedly stormed a private hospital named MA Rashid, armed with firearms, causing extensive damage. They later proceeded to vandalize a nearby house belonging to a man named Shaheen. The suspects then made their way to the local BNP party office, where they reportedly fired two or three rounds into the air and caused further destruction. The incident sparked significant unrest in the area, making headlines throughout the city.

In the aftermath, the hospital management and Shaheen filed separate cases, leading to an investigation by the district’s Detective Police. The investigation, aided by information and technology, confirmed the suspects' location, which led to their arrest in a hotel on Gulshan-2 Road in Dhaka. Despite the arrests, the police have not yet recovered the firearms used in the crime and intend to request a 10-day remand from the court to retrieve the weapons.

Jamalpur Police Superintendent Syed Rafiqul Islam stated that the initial investigations pointed to a dispute over road crossing as the motive behind the violent outbursts. Two separate cases were filed on November 30 by the hospital's director and an employee, which led to the arrests. In their initial confessions, the arrested suspects admitted their involvement in the attack. While the police have successfully apprehended these five individuals, the investigation continues as efforts are underway to capture the remaining suspects.
