A tourist jeep traveling from Khagrachari to Sajek fell into a ravine on Tuesday, January 7, injuring five students from Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU). The accident occurred around 12:30 PM near Kamal’s Bend, approximately three kilometers before reaching Sajek Valley.
The vehicle, carrying eight passengers in total, reportedly lost control when a tire burst while climbing a hilly road. Five of the passengers were injured, all identified as students of NSTU, although their names have yet to be confirmed.
According to Nurul Amin, an associate professor from Noakhali Women’s College, the injured students are all tourists from the institution. He stated that the jeep failed to maintain balance on the steep terrain and subsequently plunged into a ravine.
Assistant Police Superintendent of Baghaichhari Circle, Mahmudul Hasan, confirmed the incident, stating that emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene. The injured were rescued and transported to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, none of the injuries are reported to be critical.
Authorities have since ensured that traffic on the road has returned to normal. The accident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in navigating the steep and challenging roads leading to Sajek Valley, a popular tourist destination in the region.
Further investigations into the incident are ongoing, with officials assessing the condition of the vehicle and road safety measures in the area.
