Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia landed in London on Wednesday morning for advanced medical treatment. The air ambulance carrying her touched down at Heathrow Airport at 10:00 AM local time. She was warmly received by her son and BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, marking a heartfelt reunion after seven years. Tarique’s wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, was also present to welcome the BNP leader.

Khaleda Zia’s departure from Dhaka was an emotional event for her supporters. On Tuesday night, at around 8:15 PM, her motorcade left her Gulshan residence, Firoza, amidst a massive gathering of BNP leaders and activists. The convoy’s journey to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was slow due to the overwhelming number of supporters lining the streets to bid her farewell. The turnout caused significant traffic congestion, prolonging the journey by hours.

Upon arrival at the airport at approximately 10:51 PM, special arrangements ensured her immigration process was completed promptly. However, the delay in reaching the airport led to rescheduling the flight twice. The Royal Air Ambulance finally took off from Dhaka at 11:10 PM, beginning Khaleda Zia’s journey to London for medical care.

Supporters, emotional and determined, thronged the airport road to catch a glimpse of the BNP leader and bid her farewell, chanting slogans and expressing their wishes for her recovery. The scenes underscored the political and personal significance of her departure, as well as the profound connection between Khaleda Zia and her supporters.

After her arrival in London, Khaleda Zia was transported to a healthcare facility for necessary medical procedures. The reunion with Tarique Rahman was captured in a photo released by BNP’s media cell, depicting a poignant moment between mother and son. For Tarique, who has been in London in self-exile for years, the meeting marked a deeply emotional moment. It symbolized not just a reunion of family but a testament to the resilience of their political journey amid challenging times.

This development has drawn significant attention both domestically and internationally, with BNP leaders and supporters closely following her health updates. Khaleda Zia’s condition has been a topic of concern within political circles, sparking debates about her treatment options and the government’s handling of her situation.

As Khaleda Zia embarks on this crucial phase of her medical treatment, BNP leaders continue to express their hopes for her swift recovery and eventual return to Bangladesh.
