BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is expected to return to Bangladesh soon after Eid-ul-Fitr. Currently undergoing medical treatment in London, her health condition has improved significantly. Along with physical recovery, she is also feeling mentally at ease while staying with her family.
On Wednesday, February 12, MA Malek, President of the UK BNP and a member of the Chairperson's Advisory Council, shared this information during a discussion with Bangladeshi journalists residing in London. Speaking at around 7 PM local time, he assured that Khaleda Zia’s condition is much better than before. He expressed gratitude for the prayers of the people of Bangladesh and requested them to continue their support.
He mentioned that the BNP leader is spending quality time at the residence of her eldest son, Tarique Rahman, and daughter-in-law, Dr. Zubaida Rahman. Surrounded by her grandchildren, she is in a comfortable environment, receiving their care and affection. Malek further stated that the UK BNP team is also by her side and keeping in touch with her regularly.
“She is mentally very relaxed now. We have requested her to celebrate this Eid with us in London. However, if she agrees, she will likely return to Bangladesh shortly after Eid,” he added.
During the discussion, Malek made strong remarks regarding Khaleda Zia’s past ordeal, alleging that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attempted to harm her through slow poisoning. However, he claimed that this plan did not succeed. Quoting religious beliefs, he stated that divine intervention played a role in Khaleda Zia’s survival and that her political stature continues to rise.
Malek clarified that there have been no recent political discussions between Khaleda Zia and UK BNP leaders. He mentioned that she remains well-informed about Bangladesh’s political landscape through various sources. According to him, she is always attentive to the developments in her home country and remains concerned about the people of Bangladesh.
Although the exact date of her return has not been confirmed, the BNP leader’s improving health condition has raised expectations among her supporters that she will soon be back in Bangladesh.
