After receiving medical treatment for 17 days in the UK, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has returned home. Her doctors advised her to continue her treatment at home due to significant improvement in her health.

On Friday night, at 9:30 PM local time in London, or 3:30 AM Bangladesh time, Khaleda Zia was taken to the residence of her son, Tarique Rahman.

Prior to her return home, Tarique Rahman had attended a prayer session at the Brick Lane Mosque, which was held for his late brother, Arafat Rahman Koko.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Khaleda Zia’s personal physician, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, stated that her medical test reports would be available by Friday night. If everything was normal, she could potentially be discharged from the hospital. However, even though she was discharged, Khaleda Zia will continue to receive care under the supervision of Professors Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross.

Regarding the possibility of a liver transplant for Khaleda Zia, Dr. Zahid explained that no decision had yet been made. He highlighted that her age remained a critical factor in this decision. He also mentioned that Khaleda Zia had been deprived of necessary medical care while imprisoned, and had she been taken abroad sooner, her treatment might have been more effective.

Dr. Zahid further added that Khaleda Zia’s treatment currently involves medication for multiple health conditions, including liver, kidney, heart issues, diabetes, hypertension, and rheumatoid arthritis. The treatment will continue with these medications for now.

Additionally, members of the medical team from Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States had participated in a medical board meeting in London to explore any other possible treatments for her.

During her stay at The Clinic in London, Khaleda Zia received food from home daily, as per the doctor’s advice. Her son Tarique Rahman, daughter-in-law Zubaida Rahman, granddaughter Barrister Zaima Rahman, her late son Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman Sithi, and two daughters, Zafia and Zahiya Rahman, regularly visited her to provide care.

Furthermore, several senior BNP leaders, including M.A. Malek, President of BNP UK, and Koyser M. Ahmed, General Secretary of BNP UK, were also present daily at the hospital.

On January 8, Khaleda Zia had traveled to London for advanced medical treatment. Upon her arrival at Heathrow Airport, she was immediately taken to the specialized private hospital, The Clinic, for treatment.
