BNP Central Executive Committee member and Training Affairs Secretary ABM Mosharraf Hossain has alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government used the judiciary to falsely imprison BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for ten years. Despite enduring the sentence, Khaleda Zia remained in the country, proving her love and loyalty to her homeland. In contrast, he claimed, Sheikh Hasina fled to India during political turmoil, abandoning her followers to face the consequences.
Mosharraf Hossain made these statements on Monday at 3 PM while addressing a public reception organized by the Mahipur Thana BNP at the Mahipur Co-Opt Secondary School grounds. During his speech, he accused Sheikh Hasina and her family of embezzling Tk 60,000 crore from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. He further alleged that over the past 15 years, billions of takas have been misappropriated under the guise of rental and quick rental power projects. Additionally, he warned that the massive foreign loans taken in the name of implementing mega projects will burden the country’s 18 crore citizens, with repayment starting in October 2025.
Highlighting the BNP's political success, he stated that whenever elections have been free and fair, the BNP has emerged victorious. He accused Sheikh Hasina’s government of rigging the 2014 election by winning unopposed and manipulating the 2018 election by allowing voting the night before the polls. Referring to the 2024 elections, Mosharraf Hossain alleged that the process was controlled by bureaucrats and partisan officials, failing to reflect the people's will. He argued that these illegitimate electoral practices have undermined Sheikh Hasina’s ability to secure public trust and support.
He further accused India of spreading false propaganda against Bangladesh following Sheikh Hasina’s alleged departure. According to him, Indian narratives claim that thousands of Hindus in Bangladesh are being persecuted and displaced, which he dismissed as baseless. Mosharraf Hossain pointed out the growing participation of the Hindu community in BNP’s activities, exemplified by their presence at the Mahipur rally, where many formally joined the party.
The event was presided over by Mahipur Thana BNP President Md. Jalil Howlader and conducted by General Secretary Advocate Shahjahan Parvez. It was attended by prominent BNP leaders, including Kalapara Upazila BNP President Haji Humayun Sikder as the keynote speaker and General Secretary Advocate Hafizur Rahman Chunnu as a special speaker. Other notable attendees included Kalapara Upazila BNP Senior Vice President Zafruzzaman Khokon, Kuakata Municipal BNP President Aziz Musulli, Kalapara Municipal BNP President Gazi Md. Faruq, Rangabali Upazila BNP President Abdur Rahman Farazi, Kalapara Municipal BNP General Secretary Musa Tawhinu Munshi, and Mahipur Union Parishad Chairman Haji Md. Fazlu Gazi.
The event transformed Mahipur into a festive ground throughout the day as supporters gathered in large numbers to celebrate Mosharraf Hossain’s visit and hear his address.
