Dhaka, January 6 — BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is set to leave for London tomorrow night, Tuesday, to seek advanced medical treatment. This decision comes after ongoing health concerns that have plagued the veteran politician over recent years.
Earlier today, law adviser Asif Nazrul shared a Facebook post reflecting on Khaleda Zia’s resilience and unwavering faith despite enduring challenging times under the tenure of her political rival, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In his post, Asif Nazrul recounted a private meeting with Khaleda Zia at her residence, which took place last November. During the visit, he noted her composure and optimism, despite the adversities she had faced. Khaleda Zia reportedly praised the efforts of student leaders in recent democratic movements and expressed hope for the interim government's success in managing the country's affairs. She shared that she closely follows the country's developments, reflecting her commitment to the political landscape despite her current limitations.
During their conversation, Asif Nazrul inquired about her health and the hardships she has endured under Sheikh Hasina’s administration. He noted her deliberate choice to avoid mentioning her rival by name. Curious about her perspective, he directly asked Khaleda Zia whether she harbored anger toward Sheikh Hasina, given the political and personal struggles she had faced.
After a brief pause, Khaleda Zia responded quietly, “What good will anger do? I leave it to Allah.”
Asif Nazrul expressed his astonishment at her restraint, considering what he described as years of “malicious falsehoods and relentless oppression” directed at Khaleda Zia and numerous BNP leaders and activists during Sheikh Hasina’s rule. Despite this, Khaleda Zia refrained from uttering a single harsh word about her political rival, showcasing remarkable dignity in the face of adversity.
As Khaleda Zia prepares to depart for London, her supporters and well-wishers remain hopeful for her speedy recovery. Asif Nazrul concluded his post with a prayer for her health, expressing hope that she would soon return to Bangladesh to contribute once more to the nation’s democratic progress and development.
The trip marks a significant moment for Khaleda Zia, as her health and political future remain focal points in the country's ongoing political discourse.
