The eight-year-old girl who was brutally raped in Magura has been transferred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for advanced medical treatment. The decision to move her was made following recommendations from a medical board and instructions from Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin Murshid. On Saturday (March 8), the child was taken to CMH via an ICU ambulance at around 5:00 PM.

Dr. Ashraful Alam, Deputy Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), confirmed the transfer. He stated that the medical board, formed to oversee the child’s treatment, recommended shifting her to CMH for better care. The child had been admitted to DMCH after being initially treated at Magura 250-bed Hospital and Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Hospital sources revealed that the child’s condition remains critical. She is currently on ventilator support due to severe injuries sustained during the assault. The medical board, comprising gynecology and anesthesiology specialists, has been instructed to provide the highest level of care.

The incident came to light on Thursday when the unconscious child was brought to Magura 250-bed Hospital by her sister’s mother-in-law. Doctors found signs of strangulation, scratches on her body, and severe injuries to her genitals. The family, originally from Magura’s Shreepur upazila, reported that the child had been visiting her elder sister’s in-laws’ house when the assault occurred.

Following the incident, the child’s mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The accused include the child’s brother-in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law’s brother, all of whom were already in police custody. They were formally arrested in connection with the case on Saturday.

Magura Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Mirajul Islam confirmed that the accused family members were detained earlier and have now been charged in the case. The child’s mother is currently in Dhaka, staying with her daughter during treatment.

The case has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for swift justice and stricter enforcement of laws protecting children. Authorities have assured that the investigation will be thorough, and the accused will face the full extent of the law.

The transfer to CMH aims to provide the child with specialized care to aid her recovery. Meanwhile, the medical board continues to monitor her condition closely, prioritizing her physical and emotional well-being.

This tragic incident has highlighted the urgent need for stronger measures to protect children from sexual violence and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable. The community and activists are demanding justice for the survivor and stricter implementation of child protection laws to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.
