Male Voters Surpass Female Voters, Nearly Doubling in Number

Dhaka, January 2: The latest voter list update released by the Election Commission (EC) reveals a significant increase in the number of male voters, nearly doubling the number of female voters. A total of 18,333,352 new voters have been added to the electoral rolls, with male voters comprising a larger portion compared to female voters.

According to the data shared by the EC, male voters have increased by 5,374,742 more than their female counterparts. The information was provided during a briefing at the Election Bhaban in Dhaka on Thursday, led by Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanauallah.

The EC's statistics show that on March 2 of last year, the total number of voters stood at 121,850,160. Of these, 62,144,587 were male voters, while 59,704,641 were female voters. There were also 932 registered hijra voters.

In the 2024 update, 18,333,352 new voters have been added, with 11,853,516 males, 6,477,774 females, and 62 hijra voters. This increase has brought the total number of voters to 123,683,512, including 63,330,103 male voters, 60,352,415 female voters, and 994 hijra voters. The overall voter increase is reported to be 1.50 percent.

Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanauallah confirmed that the final voter list would be published on March 2, following a period for claim objections. He also stated that anyone with objections could submit them by January 17.

The EC also announced that the voter registration update process will begin door-to-door starting January 20. The final update will be based on the recent adjustments, and the total number of voters has now reached 121,850,160.
