The largest Jummah prayer in Bangladesh was held today at the Ijtema ground in Tongi, Gazipur, as part of the first phase of the World Ijtema. A massive crowd of over a million devotees gathered for the prayer, stretching beyond the main ground and spilling onto surrounding streets, highways, footpaths, and alleyways. The atmosphere was filled with devotion as people from all walks of life came together to observe the sacred weekly prayer.
The Jummah prayer ceremony began at 1:51 PM and concluded at 1:56 PM, with Maulana Zubair Saheb of Bangladesh leading the prayer. The media coordinator of the Tabligh Jamaat, Habibullah Raihan, confirmed the event's details, emphasizing the overwhelming turnout that began in the early morning hours as thousands of people arrived at the Ijtema grounds. With limited space in the main field, many participants had to pray on the streets, footpaths, or vacant plots nearby. Some even performed their prayers from rooftops, boats, or car roofs, using mats, plastic sheets, or newspapers to create a space for worship.
Earlier in the day, after the Fajr prayer, Maulana Ziaul Haq from Pakistan delivered a sermon, which was immediately translated into Bengali by Maulana Nurur Rahman. At 9:00 AM, a special session of teaching and discussions took place, with Maulana Jamal Saheb from India conducting a talk. Additionally, at 10:00 AM, Maulana Farahim Saheb from India gave a speech on the role of teachers, while Professor Abdul Mannan Saheb spoke to the students during a special prayer gathering. A separate lecture was also held for influential individuals at the Tin Shed Mosque, led by Maulana Akbar Sharif Saheb from India.
The organizers of the Ijtema announced that this year's World Ijtema would be held in two phases. The first phase will take place from January 31 to February 2, with participants from 41 districts and parts of Dhaka. The second phase, from February 3 to February 5, will involve devotees from 22 districts and the remaining parts of Dhaka. The final prayer, known as the "Akheri Munaajat," will be held at the conclusion of both phases, on February 2 and February 5, respectively.
This year’s World Ijtema has attracted a record-breaking number of attendees, highlighting the significance of the event in promoting unity, spirituality, and the shared commitment to Islamic teachings.
