Mehazabin Chowdhury, one of the most beloved actresses of the small screen, is making her long-awaited debut in cinema with the film Priyo Maloti, which will be released in theaters on December 20. After an illustrious career in television, this marks her first venture into the world of full-length films.

In the movie, Mehazabin plays the titular character, Malati Rani Das, a resilient and strong-willed woman from a lower-middle-class background. Malati embarks on a new chapter in her life with her husband, Polash Kumar Das, a young man with whom she envisions building a happy life. Like many other couples from similar socio-economic backgrounds, they dream of a blissful married life filled with the usual joys—celebrating anniversaries with a boat ride, cutting a cake, spending evenings together, exchanging gifts, and playful banter. The movie, directed by Shankha Dasgupta, explores the simple yet significant life of this couple and their journey.

Priyo Maloti is produced by Frame Per Second and the OTT platform Chorki. This is a significant milestone for Mehazabin, who has been a dominant presence on television for over 15 years. Her debut in the cinema marks a new chapter in her career. In a recent post on Facebook, she expressed her excitement, saying, “I can’t wait to see Priyo Maloti on the big screen at the theaters!”

In an interview, Mehazabin shared her emotions about her first film release. “This is my first movie to be released in Bangladeshi cinemas. The feeling is completely different, and I am eagerly looking forward to watching it and celebrating it with my loved ones. I will watch it with my fans and family,” she said.

The film features a talented cast alongside Mehazabin, including Nader Chowdhury, Azad Abul Kalam, Momena Chowdhury, Samu Chowdhury, Anisul Haque Barun, Shahjahan Samrat, Rizvi Rizus, and many others. Filming took place in various locations across Bangladesh, including Dhaka and Barisal, in September and October of last year.

Priyo Maloti has already been showcased at prestigious international film festivals, including the Cairo International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India. The film was officially selected at both festivals and received widespread acclaim. Despite being deeply rooted in a domestic cultural context, it was easily understood and appreciated by international audiences. The film’s universal appeal and relatable storyline have made it a standout at these festivals.

With Priyo Maloti, Mehazabin is poised to make a significant impact on the silver screen, expanding her impressive career and gaining a new audience beyond the television world. Fans are eagerly awaiting her performance, and the film promises to offer a heartfelt and poignant portrayal of life, love, and struggles from a unique and relatable perspective.
