Bangladesh is facing a likely defeat in the ongoing Test match in Antigua, with little to celebrate except for Taskin Ahmed's remarkable 6-wicket haul. However, there is a silver lining for the team's leadership as interim captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz has broken a record previously held by Shakib Al Hasan.

Miraz has now become the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in overseas Tests, surpassing Shakib’s record of 83 wickets. The moment came during the West Indies' second innings, when Miraz claimed his 84th wicket by dismissing Alik Athanaze. In that spell, Miraz bowled 14 overs, including 3 maidens, and took 2 wickets for 31 runs.

At home, Shakib holds the record for most Test wickets for Bangladesh, with 163 wickets. However, Taijul Islam has recently broken the record for most Test wickets at home, now standing at 170* wickets. Miraz has taken 104 wickets in Tests played on home soil.

Beyond Miraz and Shakib, no other Bangladeshi player has even crossed the 50-wicket mark in Tests outside the country. Overall, Shakib remains Bangladesh's highest wicket-taker in Tests with 246 wickets in 71 matches. Taijul follows with 211 wickets, while Miraz now has 189 wickets to his name.
