Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has alleged that fresh conspiracies are underway in the country. Addressing these issues, he emphasized that the BNP will not succumb to such schemes and remains steadfast in its goal to eliminate inequality and corruption, ultimately working towards establishing a government that truly represents the people.
Speaking virtually as the chief guest at a student rally organized to mark the 46th founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Saturday evening, Fakhrul criticized the ruling government for its actions over the past decade and a half. The event was held at the Thakurgaon General Library premises.
He accused the current administration of destroying the nation's economy, political structure, and democratic values over the last 15 years. According to Fakhrul, numerous students have lost their lives in the struggle against injustice and inequality, and many have suffered due to their involvement in anti-government movements. He expressed his belief that the resilience and sacrifices of students and the public will ultimately lead to change.
Referring to the government's alleged failures, Fakhrul stated that it has caused widespread corruption and disparities in society. He urged everyone to work towards creating a government that prioritizes justice, equality, and the well-being of the people.
Criticizing the historical governance of the Awami League, Fakhrul remarked on its period in power before 1975, claiming it was marked by corruption and the establishment of a one-party rule through BAKSAL. He praised the late President Ziaur Rahman, calling him a leader who restored multi-party democracy, ensured press freedom, and contributed significantly to improving the education system.
Fakhrul urged members of the JCD to focus on knowledge-based politics and intellectual growth, asserting that they are the key to shaping a better future for the country. He acknowledged the challenges faced by JCD leaders and activists over the years, including lawsuits and political repression, but expressed gratitude for what he described as the country's liberation from fascism.
The BNP Secretary General highlighted the opportunity to rebuild Bangladesh in line with the principles of justice and democracy. He conveyed his optimism that today's students, through their commitment and efforts, would play a pivotal role in this transformation.
The rally was presided over by District JCD President Kayes, with speeches from several notable leaders, including Mirza Faisal Amin, the General Secretary of Thakurgaon BNP; Nur Karim, Vice President and a veteran freedom fighter; and Paygam Ali, Joint General Secretary. Other party leaders also addressed the gathering, reiterating the BNP's commitment to a brighter future for Bangladesh.
