In a recent statement, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), revealed that the party's Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, will return to Bangladesh once all the legal cases against him are resolved. Fakhrul emphasized that many of the cases are false and politically motivated, and Rahman would come back once they are withdrawn or concluded by the court.

Fakhrul made these remarks upon his arrival at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday, December 12, after completing a visit to London. He mentioned that his trip had been productive, as he had the opportunity to meet with Tarique Rahman and discuss various matters. The trip also included meetings with expatriate Bangladeshis and BNP leaders, during which he participated in a gathering.

Reflecting on his time in London, Fakhrul shared that the Acting Chairman had encouraged the public to remain patient. He noted that significant victories had been achieved by the student and people’s movement, and in order to ensure these victories were fruitful, everyone must remain united and work together to restore democracy in the country. According to Fakhrul, the first step toward reinstating democracy is the upcoming elections, for which preparations should begin immediately.

In his comments on the upcoming national elections, Fakhrul directed a message to the government, urging them to form an interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus. This, he said, would allow political parties to cooperate and ensure that necessary reforms are completed in time for free and fair elections.

Mirza Fakhrul had traveled to London on November 30, accompanied by his wife, Rahat Ara Begum. After a successful and fruitful visit, he returned to Bangladesh on December 12.
