BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party’s Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury have departed from the United States for Dhaka. The two senior BNP leaders are expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this evening.
The information was confirmed by BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan. He stated that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury are scheduled to land in Dhaka later today after completing their visit to the United States.
Earlier, on February 2, Mirza Fakhrul and Amir Khosru traveled to the United States to attend the ‘National Prayer Breakfast’ program. The event, which takes place annually in Washington, D.C., is a significant international gathering attended by political leaders, diplomats, and influential personalities from various countries.
During the visit, the BNP leaders participated in multiple discussions with international stakeholders regarding Bangladesh’s political landscape, the upcoming elections, and concerns over democracy and governance in the country. In addition to their engagement at the National Prayer Breakfast, they reportedly held meetings with U.S. policymakers and representatives of international organizations to highlight the current political situation in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s daughter, Zaima Rahman, also attended the event in Washington, D.C., as a representative of her father. Her participation sparked discussions about her growing involvement in BNP’s international activities and diplomatic engagements.
The return of the two BNP leaders is expected to stir discussions in the country’s political sphere, particularly as BNP continues its movement for electoral reforms and the demand for a fair and neutral election under a non-partisan government. BNP supporters are likely to gather at the airport to welcome Mirza Fakhrul and Amir Khosru, reflecting the party’s ongoing mobilization efforts ahead of the political challenges they face in the coming months.
