Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizens' Party (NCP), has expressed strong confidence in his party's victory in the upcoming elections. In an interview with AFP, he stated, "I firmly believe we will win this election. However, this election is not the end... our goal is to sustain this momentum for 50, 100, or even more years." The interview was published on Friday.

Nahid highlighted that the NCP was formed to fulfill the commitments made during the mass uprisings and their aftermath. He believes that even if his party does not form the government in the next election, it will emerge as a significant political force influencing Bangladesh's politics for decades.

The timing of the next national election remains a contentious issue between the NCP and its rival parties, particularly the BNP, which argues for holding elections as soon as possible to install a government supported by the people.

Addressing allegations of election delays, Nahid dismissed them as baseless, stating, "We are often accused of conspiring to postpone elections, but that is not true." However, he acknowledged that organizing elections amid law and order challenges following Sheikh Hasina's potential downfall would be "impossible."

Nahid also criticized the lack of political will among Bangladesh's major parties to implement far-reaching reforms. He pointed out that the issues for which young people have sacrificed their lives hold no interest for these parties, underscoring the NCP's commitment to meaningful change.
