Zahidul Islam Miah, the District Commissioner of Narayanganj, widely known across the country for his humanitarian work, has reiterated his commitment to standing by the families of those martyred in the July Uprising. During the distribution of Eid essentials to martyrs’ families involved in the anti-discrimination movement, he stated that his doors have always been open for them and will remain so.

The DC made these remarks on Saturday, March 29, while distributing Eid gift packages to the families of twenty-five martyrs who had arrived from different upazilas of Narayanganj at the district commissioner’s office. He paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the martyrs, emphasizing that the nation will remember them with deep reverence for generations.

Reflecting on their bravery, Zahidul Islam drew parallels with the historic struggles of 1952 and 1971, stating that just as the nation’s heroes had once fought for language and liberation, the martyrs of the 2024 July Uprising gave their lives for a new, discrimination-free Bangladesh. He specifically mentioned the sacrifices of individuals like Shaheed Abu Saeed and Shaheed Mugdho, expressing the nation's eternal gratitude toward such brave souls.

He assured the attending families that his office will always remain a place of support and compassion for them. The DC’s presence and words were met with emotional responses from the families, many of whom shared their personal thoughts.

Ayesha Akhtar, mother of Narayanganj’s first martyred teenager Adil, expressed her appreciation for the DC's efforts. She recalled previous conversations with him and described him as a genuinely caring person who has been consistently advocating for the well-being of martyr families. She expressed hope and happiness knowing that the DC intends to stand by them in the future as well.

Adil’s father, Md. Abul Kalam, also shared his emotions, stating that although he could never get his beloved son back, the warmth and empathy shown by the District Commissioner had eased some of their pain. He particularly noted how meaningful it was to sit and share iftar with the DC before Eid and appreciated his sincerity and kindness.

Each of the gift packages handed out by the district administration included essential items such as rice, vermicelli, soybean oil, lentils, salt, noodles, powdered milk, and other everyday necessities, aimed at supporting the families during Eid.

The initiative served not only as a gesture of solidarity but also as a reminder of the state’s moral responsibility toward those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of justice and equality.
