To streamline the tax return submission and payment process for the 2024-25 fiscal year, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) launched an online tax return system on September 9. Through the NBR website, individual taxpayers can efficiently prepare and submit their returns online. The NBR has urged all taxpayers to complete their submissions by January 31.
As of Monday, the NBR’s public relations office reported that online tax return submissions have exceeded 1 million. Taxpayers can now easily download and print copies of their submitted returns, acknowledgments, tax certificates, and TIN certificates. They also have access to payment options like internet banking, debit/credit cards, and mobile banking, along with tax adjustment facilities. A call center and email support system provide round-the-clock assistance for any queries.
The NBR further announced improvements to the e-return registration process to make it more user-friendly. Taxpayers must use a biometrically registered SIM linked to their national ID to register successfully. They can verify their mobile number’s biometric registration status by dialing *16001#.
For those unable to obtain biometric SIMs despite having a national ID due to the absence of fingerprints, the NBR has implemented special provisions to facilitate their registration in the e-return system.
