Operation Devil Hunt: 65 Arrested Across Eight Districts

A total of 65 individuals have been arrested across eight districts as part of Operation Devil Hunt. The arrests were made in Chattogram (35), Sunamganj (7), Manikganj (11), Mongla in Bagerhat (6), Sonargaon in Narayanganj (3), Kalapara in Patuakhali (1), Rupganj in Narayanganj (3), Bhairab in Kishoreganj (4), and Bhuapur in Tangail (2). Chattogram

In Chattogram, a joint operation led to the arrest of 35 individuals. Among them, Nur Hossain Nuru, former general secretary of BNP’s 35th ward, was detained from his residence in Chawk Bazar’s Chawlpotti area on Monday night. Reports indicate that Nuru was allegedly involved in land grabbing and extortion under political protection.

Major Rizwan of the 34th Engineer Construction Brigade of the Bangladesh Army stated that the joint forces conducted the raid based on intelligence reports linking Nuru to extortion activities.

Additionally, a special operation in Hatia’s 6th Char King Union resulted in the arrest of Md. Nabi Uddin, Md. Imam Hossain, and Md. Fakhrul Islam Tipu. Another operation in Sandwip led to the capture of a suspected criminal, Humayun Kabir, also known as Babul. The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) confirmed these arrests in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.

Other detainees in Chattogram include Dipan Dhar (40), Md. Faruq (45), Md. Imran Hossain (32), Md. Monir Alam (33), Payer Ahmed (45), Md. Abdur Rahim (37), Md. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury (52), Mamunur Rashdi Pavel (21), Shukkur Ahmed alias Faisal (22), Ali Mortuza (35), Shahjahan Islam Saju (28), Md. Nahidul Alam Elin (43), Md. Safar Ali (39), Md. Iqbal Hossain (35), Md. Nurul Alam (62), Md. Rubel Mia (26), Abdur Rouf Badsha (19), Osman Goni alias Iman (24), AN Mehdi Islam Bappi (44), Md. Rafiq (40), Md. Rakib (24), Zulfiqar Ali Masud (50), Saiful Islam (47), Md. Arshadul Nur (20), Abul Kasem (45), Md. Akbar Hossain (25), Imam Hossain alias Ibrahim (25), Md. Belal (33), Md. Rubel (27), and Md. Alamgir Hossain (36).

Manikganj

In Manikganj, 11 individuals affiliated with the Awami League and its associate organizations were arrested for allegedly planning destabilizing activities. The arrests were made during overnight raids across seven upazilas. Those arrested include Abdul Kader (72), Amjad Hossain (45), Abdus Samad (50), Habibur Rahman Shibli (46), Riyad Hossain (37), Nazrul Islam Shahjahan (49), Saiful Islam (40), Majnu Mia (53), Kuddus Mia (44), Abdullah Al Mamun (34), and Ashraful Islam (52).

Mongla (Bagerhat)

In Mongla, joint operations by the Coast Guard, Navy, and police led to the arrest of six Awami League leaders for illegal arms possession. Early Tuesday morning, security forces conducted raids in Malgazi of Chandpai Union and Digraj of Burirdanga Union. Among those arrested were Mohammad Jahangir Hossain (43), Mohammad Dalim (52), Mohammad Shafiqul Rahman (72), and Bidhan Chandra Roy (66), who were found with a double-barreled foreign shotgun and 15 rounds of live ammunition. Later, two more suspects, Rafiqul Islam and Mohammad Saiful Sheikh, were arrested from Kumar Khali and Goaler Math.

Sunamganj

Seven individuals were arrested in Sunamganj within 24 hours. The detainees include former Chhatra League leader Md. Shahan Uddin (33), Ramzan Ali (60), Khokon Mia (40), Kamrul Hasan Tera Mia (40), Akramin Hossain (21), Jane Alam (28), and Abul Kalam Azad (40). Several of them are linked to local Awami League units.

Sonargaon (Narayanganj)

In Sonargaon, three leaders of the Chhatra League and Jubo League were arrested in police raids on Monday night. The detainees are Hafez Sohan Hasan, the district Chhatra League’s religious affairs secretary; Rony Billah, former organizational secretary of Sonargaon Municipal Chhatra League; and Shafiqul Islam, president of Ward 5 of the Jubo League in Jamapur Union.

Meherpur

Three individuals were arrested in Meherpur Sadar upazila under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The detainees are former municipal councilor Manjurul Kabir Ripon (45), Enamul Haque Babul (45), and Hriday Hossain (27).

Kalapara (Patuakhali)

In Kalapara, police arrested Mahipur Union Parishad member and Mahipur Thana Jubo League member Md. Mamun Hawlader (45). Officer-in-Charge Tariqul Islam stated that he was arrested under an existing case and presented before the court.

Rupganj (Narayanganj)

In Rupganj, three individuals, including a volunteer league leader, were arrested. The detainees are Alim Sarkar, former president of the Rupganj Sadar Union Volunteer League; Rony Hossain, general secretary of Ward 6 Chhatra League in Tarabo Municipality; and Bached Mia, a Volunteer League activist from Bhulta Union.

Bhairab (Kishoreganj)

In Bhairab, four individuals were detained during day-long operations. The arrestees include former 1st Ward Awami League president and former commissioner Afzal Hossain Bhuiyan (67), Nannu Mia (62), Badal Mia (38), and Murshid Mia (50).

Bhuapur (Tangail)

In Tangail’s Bhuapur, two Awami League leaders were arrested from Bahadipur on Monday night. The detainees are Ward 3 Awami League general secretary Belal Hossain and former general secretary and ex-councilor Rafiqul Islam.

These arrests mark a significant crackdown under Operation Devil Hunt, aiming to curb criminal activities and political unrest in the affected districts. Authorities continue their investigations, and further actions are expected in the coming days.
