BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has strongly criticized the administration, claiming that lax governance is encouraging criminals. Addressing a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Friday morning, Rizvi condemned the recent tragic death of a young girl following a brutal assault, asserting that the people of Bangladesh cannot accept such atrocities.

He stated that under the current administration, expectations for swift justice at the grassroots level remain unmet due to the sluggish and lenient approach of law enforcement agencies. This inaction, he argued, has emboldened criminals across society. He further remarked that the past 16 years of governance have distorted the country’s once-peaceful social fabric, leading to the erosion of long-standing communal harmony. According to Rizvi, corruption and lawlessness have taken root, resulting in rampant land grabbing, looting, and money laundering, all in a bid to sustain the ruling authority’s grip on power.

Rizvi accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government of fostering a climate of fear through a surge in killings, disappearances, assaults, and the oppression of opposition political activists. He claimed that these conditions have made it increasingly difficult for law-abiding citizens to live peacefully. He pointed out that incidents of violence against women and children have become more frequent, with perpetrators waiting for opportunities to exploit the vulnerable.

Referring to a recent case in Magura, where an eight-year-old girl named Ashia was allegedly assaulted by her sister’s father-in-law and later succumbed to her injuries after days of medical treatment, Rizvi expressed deep sorrow and outrage. He described the incident as one that has left the entire nation in mourning and asserted that it is indicative of a broader breakdown in morality, justice, and humanity under the current government.

He further alleged that most offenders have ties to the ruling party, prioritizing self-interest over public service. Rizvi emphasized that unless the administration takes decisive action to uphold the rule of law, public confidence in the interim government will continue to erode. He stressed the need for a strong legal framework to ensure justice and warned that an ineffective and corrupt administration would only lead to an exponential rise in crimes, including murders, violence, and assaults against women and children. He called for immediate enforcement of genuine legal protections to bring real criminals to justice.

Rizvi also announced that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has launched a nationwide initiative to collect data on cases of violence against women and children across all 84 organizational political districts. The party has also formed legal and healthcare support cells to assist victims of abuse and their families.

The press conference was attended by BNP’s Law Affairs Secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal and Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, among others.
