In a significant development, more than 100 leaders and activists of the National Party in Matlab South, Chandpur, have resigned, seeking forgiveness from the nation for their support of what they termed a "fascist government." The mass resignation took place on Monday afternoon at a local community center during an event organized by the party.
The first to submit his resignation was DM Alauddin, General Secretary of the Matlab South Upazila National Party. He was followed by other prominent leaders, including Mohsin Sarkar, President of the Municipal Branch, Babul Faraji, President of the Upazila Youth Association, and Abdul Kader, President of the Nayergaon Union National Party, along with numerous other upazila, municipal, and union-level leaders and activists.
Addressing journalists, DM Alauddin explained the reason behind the resignations, stating, "The sole reason for resigning from the National Party is that, during the era of the fascist government, this party supported it. We believe we are also complicit in this. Therefore, we are stepping down today, seeking forgiveness from the people."
He further added, "The upazila committee consists of 151 members, and 90% of them have resigned. If we join a new party, we will do so collectively, working together for the country's development and its best interests."
This mass resignation marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the region, reflecting growing discontent among party members over past alliances and decisions.
