Over 60,000 Vacancies in One Ministry, Recruitment Process to Begin Soon

In a recent announcement, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, an advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, revealed that the ministry currently has approximately 60,000 vacant positions. He stated that the recruitment process for these positions will commence shortly. The news was shared by Bhuiyan in a Facebook post on Friday night, December 13, 2024, where he provided details of the staffing gaps within the ministry.

According to Bhuiyan’s post, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives is facing a significant shortage of staff, with nearly 60,000 positions unfilled. He assured the public that efforts would soon be underway to address this issue through a recruitment campaign.

This development follows a recent communication from the Ministry of Public Administration on December 2, 2024, which provided an update on the state of vacant government positions. According to the statistics provided for 2023, the government has a total of 473,000 approved vacant positions across various ministries and departments. This data reflects a significant gap in staffing that the government is actively working to resolve.

In line with this, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) has already started taking steps to fill some of these vacancies. On December 2, 2024, the BPSC announced the opening of the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination, aiming to fill 3,688 vacant positions within the government. The recruitment process for the 47th BCS is expected to contribute significantly to reducing the shortage of government staff in various sectors.

The local government ministry's announcement comes at a time when the country is focusing on strengthening its administrative and public service sectors. Filling the 60,000 vacant positions within the ministry is seen as a vital step in ensuring efficient functioning and improving public services at the grassroots level.
