Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.), Advisor on Home Affairs, has declared that individuals involved in the recent violence at the Tongi Bishwa Ijtema ground will be brought to justice. Speaking firmly, he assured that there would be no scope for leniency for those responsible for the clashes that led to loss of life. The advisor emphasized that all culpable parties would face due legal action, and proper investigations would ensure accountability.
On Wednesday (December 17), during a press briefing held at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka’s Secretariat, the advisor addressed the media following a special meeting. The meeting was organized to ensure the smooth arrangement of the upcoming Bishwa Ijtema and included discussions with the two factions of Tabligh Jamaat — the Zubair and Saad groups.
The advisor reiterated that no one is above the law and promised that the perpetrators would not escape justice. He further urged both factions of Tabligh Jamaat to adopt a more flexible stance and make concessions for the greater good. According to him, a collaborative approach from all sides is crucial to successfully hosting a peaceful and orderly Bishwa Ijtema.
During the briefing, the advisor expressed his condolences for the victims who lost their lives during the unfortunate incident and wished a swift recovery for those injured.
The meeting, presided over by the Home Affairs Advisor, was attended by several other dignitaries, including Land Advisor A.F. Hasan Arif, Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Information and Broadcasting Advisor Nahid Islam, Religious Affairs Advisor Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain, and Special Assistant on Defense and National Solidarity Development to the Chief Advisor, Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz (Retd.). Also present was Md. Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury, Special Assistant on Home Ministry Affairs to the Chief Advisor.
