In a shocking incident in Chattogram, a police officer became the victim of a robbery and assault by a group of miscreants. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, February 28, on the Patenga Outer Ring Road. Sub-Inspector Yusuf Ali, who was on duty at a checkpoint, was attacked by a group of assailants. They physically assaulted him and snatched his mobile phone, wallet, and walkie-talkie before fleeing the scene.

Following the attack, patrol police and local residents collaborated to rescue the injured officer. Two young men, identified as Simon (27) and Ali Imad alias Tafsir Imad (22), were arrested in connection with the incident. A knife and a motorcycle were seized from their possession, and the stolen items, including the mobile phone, wallet, and walkie-talkie, were recovered.

A case has been filed under the Speedy Trial Act at the Patenga Model Police Station, according to Additional Deputy Commissioner (PR and Media) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Mahmuda Begum. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel in the area.

Reports indicate that during the attack, Sub-Inspector Yusuf Ali identified himself as a police officer and called for help. However, the assailants dismissed his claims, labeling him a "fake policeman" and inciting a mob to gather at the scene. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Patenga Police Station and local residents rushed to the C-Beach area and rescued the officer. The enraged crowd also caught and handed over the two suspects to the police after subjecting them to public beatings.

This incident follows another recent attack on police officers in the city. On February 25, two officers from the Double Mooring Police Station were stabbed by associates of a robbery gang leader, Monir and Mehedi, while investigating a theft case in the Barik Building area. The recurring attacks on law enforcement personnel have highlighted the growing challenges faced by police in maintaining order and safety in Chattogram.

The arrests and recovery of stolen items have provided some relief, but the incidents have sparked discussions about the need for enhanced security measures and public cooperation to combat such crimes. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts to ensure safety and justice in the community.

The Chattogram Metropolitan Police have assured that they are taking the matter seriously and will intensify efforts to prevent such incidents in the future. The arrested individuals are currently under investigation, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.

The attacks on police officers have drawn widespread condemnation from the public and local leaders, who are calling for stricter measures to deter criminal activities. The incidents serve as a reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement personnel in the line of duty and the importance of community support in ensuring their safety.

As the investigation continues, the Chattogram police have vowed to crack down on criminal elements and restore public confidence in the security of the city. The arrests in this case mark a step forward in addressing the challenges posed by organized crime and ensuring the safety of both law enforcement officers and citizens.
