Returning after eight years in the U.S., Baby Nazneen shares her commitment to the political landscape and pledges to support a united Bangladesh

Celebrated singer and BNP Chairperson's adviser, Baby Nazneen, reaffirmed her commitment to politics, stating, "I am with politics and also with my media colleagues," as she arrived in Bangladesh after eight years abroad. Returning from the United States, she addressed media at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday, November 10. While greeted by BNP supporters chanting slogans, Baby declined to accept floral offerings, expressing that "greetings alone are enough."

Known as the "Black Diamond" of Bangladesh’s music scene, Baby Nazneen extended her heartfelt tribute to the student protesters of July-August, lauding their stand against discrimination and acknowledging the sacrifices that contributed to the recent political shift. "Bangladesh has tasted a new wave of freedom," she remarked, noting the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government and the resurgence of free expression after 16 years.

Reflecting on the sacrifices of the protesting youth, Baby urged unity in realizing their shared vision, encouraging Bangladeshis to support the leadership of Tarique Rahman, son of late President Ziaur Rahman, in building the dream Bangladesh.

Addressing the interim government, Baby expressed optimism in the inclusion of Nobel Laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. She called for swift reforms to ensure a transition of power to a democratically elected government, while also extending wishes for BNP leader Khaleda Zia's health and longevity.

During the past 16 years of Awami League rule, Baby Nazneen faced numerous challenges in her music career, struggling to perform freely on Bangladesh’s radio, television, and stage. Eventually, she was compelled to relocate overseas, where she continued to thrive and represent Bangladesh globally, especially among expatriates in America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Spanning four and a half decades, Baby Nazneen’s illustrious career includes over fifty solo albums and several duets. She has worked with prominent Indian artists such as Asha Bhosle, Bappi Lahiri, Kumar Sanu, and Kavita Krishnamurthy. A special-category artist for Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, she remains celebrated for her contribution to Bangladeshi film and music.
