Dhaka, Monday (January 27) — Students demanding the reinstatement of the cluster admission system have locked the main gate of the University Grants Commission (UGC) building. Frustrated by the absence of any directives from the Ministry of Education regarding their demands, the protesters decided to escalate their demonstration on Monday afternoon.

Siam Hasan, a student leading the protest, expressed his disappointment, stating, “On Sunday, we were assured by both the UGC and the Ministry of Education that a decision would be conveyed to us today. They even mentioned issuing strict directives to universities to ensure participation in the cluster admission system. However, it’s already past noon, and we haven’t received any updates.” He added, “Office hours are about to end, and they might tell us to wait until tomorrow. That’s why we’re taking a firm stance—our demands must be met today. Until then, we won’t unlock the UGC gate.”

Earlier in the day, at around 11:30 AM, students gathered in front of the UGC building in Agargaon, Dhaka, to stage their protest. Carrying banners and placards with slogans such as “In 2024, we demand a cluster system for 24 universities,” the students stood united in their call for the restoration of the cluster admission system.

Despite assurances from officials, the lack of concrete action has led to mounting frustration among the students. Protesters have pledged to continue their demonstration until their demands are addressed, highlighting the urgency of the issue and their determination to see it resolved.
