Students of Dhaka University (DU) staged a torch procession on campus on Sunday night, protesting against rape and violence against women. Meanwhile, students of Chittagong University (CU) held demonstrations demanding a swift and strict punishment for the accused.

Carrying torches and chanting slogans, hundreds of students from various halls of DU marched under the banner of ‘Anti-Rape Platform.’ The procession started from the Raju Memorial Sculpture and paraded through different areas of the campus. Protesters voiced their demands with slogans such as ‘Who are you, who am I, Asia Asia,’ ‘We want justice,’ and ‘Hang the rapists.’

Earlier, at around 7:30 PM, students gathered at Raju Sculpture for a brief assembly before beginning the torch procession. The march passed through the Vice Chancellor’s residence, various halls, and Shahbagh before returning to the sculpture by 9 PM.

Meanwhile, students from seven affiliated colleges in the capital organized a protest march near Eden College in the evening, expressing their outrage over the increasing incidents of sexual violence.

At CU, general students took to the streets in the evening, demanding a proper investigation into the incidents of sexual violence and calling for the maximum punishment for the perpetrators. The protest march began from Zero Point and Sheikh Hasina Hall.

During the demonstration, students raised slogans such as ‘If ropes are needed, bring them, hang the rapists,’ ‘Who are you, who am I, Asia Asia,’ ‘Justice, justice, we want justice,’ ‘Light the fire, burn it bright,’ ‘Action, action, direct action,’ and ‘No more tears of our sisters.’

Following the march, the students gathered at Zero Point for a protest rally, reiterating their demands for justice and strict legal action against the perpetrators.
