The Administrative Reform Commission has proposed dividing Bangladesh into four provinces in its report submitted to Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday, February 5. The proposal, presented by the commission's chairman Abdul Mueed Chowdhury, suggests reconfiguring the administrative divisions of the country to streamline governance.
A press conference was held later at the state guest house, Jamuna, where the Chief Advisor's press secretary Shafiqul Alam, deputy press secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, and Apurbo Jahangir were also present.
The commission's proposal includes the creation of four administrative provinces, alongside a recommendation to separate Comilla and Faridpur into distinct divisions. Additionally, the commission has suggested forming a "Greater Dhaka Capital City," which would encompass both Dhaka and Narayanganj.
Other significant recommendations in the report include establishing a separate immigration unit within the police force and restructuring the public service by creating three distinct Public Service Commissions to manage different aspects of government employment.
Earlier on Wednesday, the heads of the Administrative Reform Commission, Abdul Mueed Chowdhury, and the Judicial Reform Commission, Shah Abu Naim Mominur Rahman, submitted their reports to Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus.
Following the formation of the interim government on August 8, six reform commissions were created to address various sectors of the state. Among these, the reports from the Election Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, Police, and Constitutional Reform Commissions were submitted on January 15, while the remaining two reform commissions presented their reports today.
