In the first 28 days of December, Bangladesh has received $242 million in remittances through legal channels, translating to approximately 29,040 crore Bangladeshi Taka (at the rate of 1 USD = 120 BDT). On average, this means the country has been receiving $8.64 million in remittances daily during this period.
According to the latest update from Bangladesh Bank, as of December 29, remittances through state-owned banks amounted to $68.96 million, while specialized banks contributed $9.26 million. Private banks saw a higher flow, with $163.13 million coming through these institutions, and foreign banks added $0.69 million to the total.
In the current 2024-25 fiscal year, from July 1 to December 28, the total remittance received by Bangladesh has reached $1.36 billion.
During this period, remittance inflow has been consistent, with $191.37 million in July, $222.41 million in August, $240.47 million in September, and $240 million in October. In November, remittances totaled $220 million.
For the previous fiscal year 2023-24, expatriates sent a total of $23.92 billion in remittances, which is equivalent to BDT 2.82 trillion. This figure was the second highest in the country’s history, with the highest ever recorded in the 2020-21 fiscal year, which saw remittances amounting to $24.77 billion.
