On Saturday morning, January 18, retired Brigadier General and advisor to the Ministry of Shipping, Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain, voiced his frustration with the state of corruption in the country, urging citizens not to allow elections to be conducted by dishonest individuals. He made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the Alhaj Chowdhury Kamal Uddin Launch Terminal in Dhalchar, under Char Kolatoli Union of Monpura, Bhola.

In his address, Dr. Sakhawat expressed his deep disappointment with the extent of corruption that has plagued the country. "Perhaps we do not have much time left, but please, do not let these thieves oversee the elections again," he pleaded with the attendees. Highlighting the impact of corruption, he noted, "It pains me to see that billions of the country's wealth have been siphoned abroad. If that money had remained in the country, significant development could have taken place."

Dr. Sakhawat further elaborated on the challenges caused by widespread corruption, saying, "Nowadays, whenever we plan to undertake a project, we are constantly worried. Corruption has reached such a level that it has become ingrained in their very blood." He explained that corruption is so rampant that it inflates the costs of projects significantly. "We have to make items that should cost 100 takas for 200 or 300 takas," he said, pointing out the financial burden that corruption places on development.

He urged the residents of Monpura Island to carefully consider who would best serve their interests. In his call for honest leadership, he encouraged them to think deeply about who would truly bring about positive change for their community.

The event was attended by several prominent officials, including BIWTA (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority) Chairman Arif Mustafa, Monpura Upazila Executive Officer Pathan Mohammad Saiduzzaman, and Monpura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Kabir Hossain, among others.
