In the aftermath of the unprecedented mass uprising in July and August, which saw widespread participation from students and women of all ages, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus met with some of the brave women who took part in this historic movement. The gathering, titled “Daughters of July… We Will Not Let You Be Forgotten,” was organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Tuesday, December 10.
During the event, Dr. Yunus encouraged the women, particularly students, to continue striving for a brighter future for themselves and the nation. He attentively listened to their hopes, aspirations, and demands, commending their courage and resilience during the turbulent uprising.
In his address, Dr. Yunus acknowledged the emotional significance of the day, stating, “Today is a day of celebration, of anger, of emotions—all of these come together today. It is a day to express everything. It is because of this passion and spirit that we are here. Without such emotions, we could not survive as human beings. Let us hold on to the strength to express what is needed, when it is needed, and to the extent that it is needed.”
Speaking to the women who led the revolutionary movement, Dr. Yunus described the meeting as a historic moment for him. He expressed gratitude to these women, saying, “Today, I have the honor of meeting you, and it is a historic day for me. You have taken Bangladesh to a new height, which is nothing short of a historic achievement. What happened in July in Bangladesh is unparalleled in the world. Many uprisings have occurred globally, but this one was completely unique. It was something crafted by your own hands, without the directive of any prominent leader. You led it spontaneously.”
Dr. Yunus highlighted the inclusive nature of the uprising, noting that it drew participation from women across all spheres of life. “Students from schools, colleges, and universities, working women, and even homemakers—wherever they were, they came forward and joined this movement with equal vigor. This has completely transformed Bangladesh. The country before August 5 no longer exists. This is a new Bangladesh. Together, we will build this new nation. The pledge you made to change the country must be upheld.”
According to the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing, the gathering was organized to celebrate the contributions and achievements of the women who played key roles in the July uprising. Participants included female students from various educational institutions, including colleges and universities, as well as working women from government and private organizations.
The July-August uprising remains a landmark event in Bangladesh’s history, and the meeting served as a recognition of the revolutionary daughters whose courage and leadership left an indelible mark on the nation’s journey.
