From 2026 onwards, followers of Maulana Saad will no longer be allowed to hold the World Ijtema at the banks of the Turag River in Tongi, Gazipur. This restriction was announced in an official notification issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, signed by Deputy Secretary Abu Sayeed. However, as a final concession, Saad followers have been granted permission to organize this year’s Ijtema from February 14.
According to the notification, Saad followers of Tabligh Jamaat Bangladesh are permitted to conduct the second phase of the World Ijtema from February 14 to 16 on the condition that they will not organize any future gatherings or Tablighi activities at the Tongi Ijtema ground. After the conclusion of the event, they must hand over the ground to the administration by February 18 after Maghrib prayers.
The directive further states that from next year, Tabligh Jamaat Bangladesh (Maulana Saad’s followers) will be prohibited from holding their World Ijtema and any other Tablighi activities at the Tongi Ijtema ground. This condition has been set as a prerequisite for allowing this year's event from February 14 to 16.
As per the notification, on February 20, the Tongi Ijtema ground will be officially handed over to the Shura-e-Nizam faction.
The dispute within Tabligh Jamaat first became publicly evident in November 2017 when a conflict erupted between two factions at their headquarters in Kakrail, Dhaka. The rift deepened further in July 2018 when an assembly led by Hefazat-e-Islam chief Shah Ahmad Shafi took place in Dhaka, where decisions were made, including calls to ban Maulana Saad Kandhalvi from Bangladesh.
The conflict has since continued to shape the dynamics of the Tabligh Jamaat in Bangladesh, leading to administrative intervention in regulating its gatherings and activities.
