The government has instructed a high-level committee to submit a preliminary report within three days regarding the fire incident at the Secretariat. The directive was announced during a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday evening (December 26). Syeda Rizwana Hasan, an advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, shared the details with the media.
Rizwana Hasan revealed that an emergency meeting was convened, chaired by the Chief Advisor. During the meeting, it was decided to form a high-level investigative committee tasked with identifying the reasons behind the incident and assessing the damages. The committee has been mandated to submit its initial findings within three days to facilitate immediate action.
The committee will be led by the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Other members include the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, the Inspector General of Police, the Chief of Fire Service and Civil Defense (who will act as the member secretary), an explosives expert from the Armed Forces, and three experts from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) specializing in civil, chemical, and electronic engineering.
The press conference was attended by Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs, along with Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministries of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, as well as Youth and Sports. Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, was also present at the event.
Further details about the incident and the findings of the investigative committee are expected to be disclosed once the initial report is submitted.
