The students of the Seven Colleges have once again issued a 24-hour ultimatum as part of their ongoing protest. This announcement was made on Tuesday evening during a press conference held at Dhaka College by Abdur Rahman, the organizer of the movement advocating for the Seven Colleges to be transformed into an independent university.
During the press briefing, Abdur Rahman expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of a concrete resolution to their demands. He emphasized that achieving a permanent solution was impossible without ensuring justice for those responsible for injuring their fellow students. He stated that the students had withdrawn their previous ultimatum as a gesture of responsibility to prevent instability in the country. However, they remain resolute in their demand for justice, maintaining the fresh 24-hour ultimatum until those involved in the violence are held accountable.
Zakaria Bari, a student from Kabi Nazrul College, echoed these sentiments during the press conference, questioning the rationale behind reaching a resolution with those responsible for harming their fellow students. He asserted that no compromise could be made at the expense of the bloodshed of their peers.
The students also reiterated their demand for the establishment of an independent university, providing a 15-day deadline for authorities to take concrete steps toward this objective. Additionally, they urged the authorities to ensure that all academic activities, including classes and examinations, resume from February 1. Despite their firm stance on these demands, they announced the withdrawal of previous plans to vandalize Dhaka University vehicles and surround police stations, in an effort to avoid escalating tensions.
In conclusion, the students warned that if their demands are not met within 24 hours, they will announce new programs to escalate their movement further.
