Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has issued a stern warning against corruption, stating that any government official daring to accept bribes will have their hands broken and rendered useless. He made these remarks on Thursday at 11:30 AM during a worker's conference of the Magura district Jamaat-e-Islami, held at the historic Nomani Maidan.
Criticizing the previous governments, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said they had come to power not to change the nation's fate but to enrich themselves. He claimed that over the past 15 years, these leaders had only grown wealthier, while public grievances went unheard. He further alleged that judges and government officials under such administrations would not dare to accept bribes in the future under the vigilance of Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to Shafiqur Rahman, many influential figures in the country live and work here but stash their money abroad, building lavish properties in what is commonly referred to as "Begum Para" abroad. He accused such individuals of laundering 26 trillion Bangladeshi taka out of the country in the past 15 years. He emphasized that every penny of this laundered money must be tracked down and brought back to Bangladesh.
In his speech, he also criticized past governments for their autocratic behavior, claiming that they ruled the country with brute force, depriving people of their fundamental rights. He alleged that under such governments, people were unable to express their emotions freely, as an invisible lock was placed on their voices.
Shafiqur Rahman assured that Jamaat-e-Islami would not impose any religion on anyone and emphasized the empowerment and freedom of women based on merit. He promised respect and dignity for women in all spheres of society.
The conference was presided over by district Ameer Professor M.B. Bakker, with special addresses delivered by Jamaat-e-Islami Executive Council member and Jessore-Kushtia regional director Mobarak Hossain, former Jessore district Ameer and assistant director of the region Md. Azizur Rahman, and other regional leaders, including Abdul Matin and Professor Dr. Alamgir Biswas. Central Majlish-e-Shura member Maulana Badruddin, district Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Professor Said Ahmed Bacchu, non-Muslim organization district secretary Uttam Kumar Biswas, Jhenaidah district Jamaat Ameer Ali Azam, and Jamaat’s central working committee member Md. Ataur Rahman were also in attendance.
This gathering highlighted Jamaat-e-Islami’s vision for a corruption-free Bangladesh and a society where governance is aligned with the welfare and dignity of the people. The leaders vowed to take strong measures against corruption and ensure justice and equality in every aspect of governance.
