In a fiery press conference on Friday (March 21), Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizen Party, launched a scathing attack on the ruling Awami League, accusing it of genocide and demanding the cancellation of its political registration. Speaking at the party’s central office, Islam labeled the Awami League a "fascist and mafia organization," asserting that it has no right to participate in the country’s politics.
"The Awami League is no longer a political party; it is a genocidal entity. The people of this country have already delivered their verdict on July 36," Islam declared, referencing a symbolic date representing public discontent. She called for visible action to hold Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina accountable for alleged atrocities, stating, "We want to see Sheikh Hasina face trial for genocide."
The National Citizen Party also announced plans for nationwide protests to resist what it described as the "mafia group’s attempts to return to power." Party member secretary Akhtar Hossain outlined the protest programs, emphasizing the need to mobilize public opposition against the Awami League’s ideology and actions.
The press conference has intensified political tensions, with the National Citizen Party positioning itself as a vocal critic of the ruling party. As calls for justice and accountability grow louder, the Awami League faces mounting pressure to address these allegations amid an increasingly polarized political landscape.
