Rafiqul Alam Majnu, convenor of BNP’s Dhaka Metropolitan South unit, has stated that the struggle was always for building a democratic society where the people, as the sovereign power, could elect their government through voting. Now, that opportunity has arisen, yet some political parties have taken a stance against the dreams of the martyrs.
On Thursday afternoon, at a workshop titled ‘Reforming the State Structure: 31-Point Plan Presented by Tarique Rahman and Public Engagement,’ organized by Sutrapur Thana BNP at Dholaikhal, Majnu made these remarks as the session’s presiding speaker.
Majnu issued a warning, saying that if reckless behavior and negative politics undermine the sacrifices of the martyrs, Bangladesh will not forgive them. The youth who sacrificed their lives for a dream will see that dream become a reality through the implementation of the 31-point reform agenda.
The workshop was conducted by Tanvir Ahmed Robin, member secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP. The 31-point reform proposal was presented and analyzed by BNP’s International Affairs Committee member, Engineer Ishraq Hossain.
The event was also attended and addressed by former General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Kazi Abul Bashar, Executive Committee member Hamidur Rahman Hamid, Joint Convenors of the city BNP Harunur Rashid Harun, Abdus Sattar, Saidur Rahman Mintu, Mokbul Islam Khan Tipu, Farhad Hossain, President of the South Volunteer Party Zahiduddin Tuhin, Convenor of the South Workers' Party Suman Bhuiyan, President of the South Farmers' Party Haji Kamal Hossain, President of the South Women’s Party Ruma Akter, and various other leaders of the BNP and affiliated organizations.
Engineer Ishraq Hossain criticized what he described as the “fascist” government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, stating that over the past decade and a half, Bangladesh has been severely damaged in all aspects under her rule. He emphasized that BNP’s acting chairman, after consulting with over 60 political parties in Bangladesh, has introduced a 31-point reform proposal aimed at institutional and socio-economic recovery. If given the people's mandate, the BNP pledges to implement these reforms collectively.
Tanvir Ahmed Robin emphasized that unity among the party’s members is the only way to permanently eliminate what he referred to as the accomplices of fascism. He warned that anyone providing shelter or support to such forces would also be resisted.
