Students of Government Titumir College have launched a 'Shutdown Titumir' campaign, demanding the immediate transformation of the college into a university. The campaign began on Tuesday, with students suspending classes and exams to press for their demands.

The decision to initiate the shutdown was made during a meeting held on Monday night by the Titumir Unity, a platform advocating for the college's transition into a university.

The students have set a 48-hour deadline for the government to meet their demands, which include converting the college into a university and forming an administrative structure. They insist that a Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor must be appointed within this timeframe. Failing this, the protesters have announced plans to block roads and railway lines in the Mohakhali area starting Thursday, January 30.

Students argue that the cancellation of Dhaka University’s affiliation with seven colleges has left these institutions without proper oversight or guidance. They emphasize their firm stance on turning Titumir College into a university and vow to intensify their movement if their demands are not addressed.

As part of their ongoing campaign, students had already taken symbolic action on January 7, when they hung a banner reading "Titumir University" at the main gate of the college. Protesters assert that their movement is rooted in the need for a structured and independent academic framework for the institution.

The demands have raised significant concerns about the governance of affiliated colleges and the broader implications for higher education management in the country. Students remain steadfast in their resolve, signaling further disruptions unless immediate action is taken.
