BNP's Dhaka Division Deputy Organizational Secretary Nazarul Islam Azad stated that Tarik Rahman was the architect of the 17-year-long democratic movement that led to the fight against authoritarian rule. He made these remarks while addressing a program in memory of Arafat Rahman Koko on the occasion of his 10th death anniversary.
Azad reflected on the adversities faced by Arafat Rahman Koko during the 1/11 government, pointing out that he was tortured during that period and later, under the oppressive rule of the Awami League government, he suffered immensely before passing away on the same day.
He further acknowledged that the 17-year-long movement for democracy and equality that BNP led, which stood in opposition to the government’s authoritarian actions, was shaped by the efforts of Tarik Rahman. Azad emphasized that Tarik Rahman not only led the resistance but also spearheaded the movement aimed at toppling the current government.
Azad made these statements while attending a winter clothes distribution program organized by the Narayanganj District Youth Dal in Arainagar on Friday (January 24). The event marked the 10th death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko.
During his speech, Azad also offered prayers for the soul of late President Ziaur Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko, as well as for the many leaders and activists who had endured suffering over the past 17 years and passed away.
