Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), stated that an interim government cannot execute all necessary reforms and should prioritize organizing a free and fair election. Speaking virtually as the chief guest at the Chuadanga District BNP Conference on Saturday morning, Rahman highlighted that reforms are a continuous process requiring the involvement of an elected government.

"The interim government must understand the will of the people. Its responsibility is to hand over power to a government elected through fair elections. The subsequent reforms should then be implemented by the elected government," he remarked.

During his address, Tarique Rahman urged for immediate elections and directed BNP leaders and activists to align their behavior with the public's expectations. "BNP carries the hopes and aspirations of the people. Our conduct must reflect their trust in us," he added.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the BNP Secretary General, inaugurated the conference and criticized the historical and current leadership of the Awami League (AL). Fakhrul accused Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of introducing authoritarianism and claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has perpetuated "fascism" during her 17-year tenure.

Fakhrul argued that the country's democracy has been stifled, with rampant corruption and financial scandals pushing Bangladesh into severe poverty. He stressed that a free and impartial election is necessary for addressing these crises and implementing the required reforms.

The event began with the hoisting of the national and party flags, followed by Quran and Gita recitations. Tribute was paid to deceased BNP members, and families of victims from recent political violence received gifts on behalf of Tarique Rahman.

Prominent BNP leaders, including Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu and other divisional and district leaders, delivered speeches. The conference saw active participation, with Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu elected unopposed as the District BNP President. Voting for other key positions, including General Secretary, was scheduled for later in the day.

The Chuadanga District BNP Conference 2024 concluded with a celebratory atmosphere, marking a significant step in revitalizing party operations at the grassroots level.
