Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the BNP, has warned against the potential exploitation of Bangladesh’s national resources if a weak and unsupported government remains in power. Speaking virtually from London at a workshop titled “31-Point Framework for State Reform and Ensuring Public Engagement” held at the Narsingdi Heritage Resort on Thursday morning, Rahman underscored the dangers posed by internal and external entities eyeing the country's wealth.

Rahman stated that a vulnerable government lacking popular support creates an environment conducive to looting and exploitation. "Many are fixated on our nation's economic and natural resources with predatory intentions," he said, emphasizing that a state of persistent instability would only benefit those seeking to capitalize on the country’s vulnerabilities.

He urged BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant and committed to the party’s ongoing struggle for democracy and sovereignty. “The battle is far from over. This is a war for the defense of democracy, freedom, and sovereignty,” he said, adding that continuous efforts are required to ensure success.

Rahman invoked the legacy of the BNP's founding leader, highlighting his leadership during Bangladesh's liberation war and subsequent development initiatives. He reminded the audience, “Our leader not only fought for the country's independence but also took up the responsibility of rebuilding it. From digging canals to boosting development, he moved the nation forward.”

He recounted the BNP’s historic struggle against autocratic rule, emphasizing the people's unity in overthrowing dictatorship. "Our fight leading up to August 5 was a movement to end tyranny, uniting people across political lines. Together, the people forced the dictator to flee," he said.

Rahman argued that the current struggle goes beyond politics, aiming to protect national independence, sovereignty, and economic stability. He asserted that only the BNP has the capacity to lead such a fight and build a prosperous Bangladesh.

Addressing BNP members, Rahman cautioned against the consequences of prolonged instability under a government lacking public support. “If such a government remains, the door will remain open for exploitation. Chaos within the country creates opportunities for many. To protect the country and its people, we need a government that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens and the nation's interests,” he said.

The workshop was chaired by Khairul Kabir Khokon, the convenor of the Narsingdi district BNP and joint secretary general of the BNP. The event was attended by several prominent BNP leaders, including Rahman’s advisor Dr. Mahadi Amin, joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, assistant relief affairs secretary Halima Nawaz Arly, assistant local government affairs secretary Shammi Akhter, assistant mass education affairs secretary Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon, and Narsingdi district BNP member secretary Monuzur Elahi, alongside central and local leaders.
