Tarique Rahman’s 31-point reform agenda has gained significant traction among the public, becoming a symbol of trust and hope, according to speakers at a public rally held in Anwara Upazila, Chattogram, on Saturday evening. The rally, organized by Bot Toli Union BNP and its affiliate organizations, aimed to mobilize public opinion in favor of the reform framework, which was announced by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman as part of the party’s vision for restructuring the state.
During the rally at the premises of Shah Mohsen Awlia High School, speakers emphasized the importance of staying true to the aspirations of the people that emerged during the political upheaval of July and August. They asserted that the sacrifices of those who gave their lives during the student and public movements should not be betrayed. The BNP, through its advocacy for the 31-point proposal, has successfully garnered widespread public support across the nation, they claimed.
The speakers also stressed that the BNP has reached a position of trust and credibility among the people, which must not be jeopardized by any deviation or imprudent actions. They called for a collective effort to implement the reform proposals, ensuring that the aspirations of the people are realized.
Highlighting the repression faced by the party over the past 16 years, the speakers accused the ruling government of silencing opposition voices through fabricated cases, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and arbitrary arrests. They described these actions as emblematic of a fascist regime led by Sheikh Hasina.
The speakers expressed hope that, should the BNP come to power in the next election, the 31-point reform agenda would be implemented to reflect the hopes and expectations of the people. They also assured that initiatives would be undertaken to achieve economic prosperity and ensure equal rights for all citizens.
The rally was presided over by former Union Parishad (UP) member Abdul Hamid, with Abul Kalam Abu, former welfare secretary of Chattogram South District BNP and a former UP chairman, serving as the chief guest. The event was jointly conducted by SM Ilyas Karim Mithu, a member of Anwara Upazila BNP, and Samsul Huda Fahim, the organizational secretary of Anwara Upazila Chhatra Dal.
Prominent attendees included former Bot Toli Union BNP General Secretary SM Yahia Karim Tipu, Anwara Upazila BNP member Kamrul Islam, former convenor of Shah Mohsen Awlia Degree College Chhatra Dal M Sahabuddin, and BNP leaders Nasir Uddin, Zahir Member, and Zafar Member.
The rally concluded with a call for unity and resilience in the face of challenges, urging BNP activists and supporters to continue their efforts to build a prosperous and equitable Bangladesh.
