Savar, March 20: A 13-year-old girl was rescued after being abducted and held captive for 34 days, during which she was repeatedly raped. The accused, Mofazzal Hossain, alias Shakil (38), was arrested by police in Ashulia on Thursday evening. The arrest was confirmed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Sohail Rana Talukdar of Ashulia Police Station.
The victim was abducted on February 12 from her rented home in Jamgora, Ashulia, and was found on March 18 in a rented house near the DIS office in Jamgora. The suspect fled upon being discovered but was later apprehended during a police raid.
Mofazzal, a tenant in the house of one Rashed in Jamgora, hails from Char Krishnapur in Tarakanda, Mymensingh. The victim’s sister, who located her, reported that the accused had threatened to kill her family if she resisted his advances.
The victim recounted being lured, confined, and subjected to repeated sexual assaults. She was also physically abused whenever she refused to comply. Following her rescue, she was sent to the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical examination.
A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act by the victim’s sister. SI Sohail Rana stated that the accused is now in custody, and further legal actions are underway.
The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with demands for swift and severe punishment for the perpetrator.
