In Gazipur, over 42,000 workers gathered for a rally demanding the reopening of factories at the Beximco Industrial Park and the provision of banking services. The rally was held on Tuesday afternoon at Sun City Field in Kashimpur, Shreepur, where the workers chanted slogans like "We want jobs, not charity," "We want to live with our families," and "Open the factories, they must be opened."

The workers were protesting the closure of 16 factories in Beximco Industrial Park, which has impacted nearly 50,000 jobs and indirectly affected millions of families. The protestors are calling for the reopening of these factories and the payment of overdue wages.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Abu Taleb from the Gazipur Industrial Police-2, Konabari zone, confirmed the rally. He stated that the workers were demanding the reopening of factories and the payment of outstanding wages, as the factories were shut down after a meeting on December 15th by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The closure decision had been made during a review meeting regarding the labor and business situation at the Beximco factories.

The workers, who had been employed in the now-closed factories, voiced their desperation, saying they had secured their jobs based on merit. Many workers expressed they would not leave the protest until their demands were met. The workers emphasized the far-reaching impact of these closures, noting that their livelihoods supported not just their families, but millions of others.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Taleb added that the protest began at around 2:30 p.m. and has drawn significant attention due to the scale of the workers' demands.

This protest has drawn attention to the ongoing struggle faced by workers in the country, as factory closures and unpaid wages have left thousands in dire conditions. The workers are adamant that the factories must be reopened to preserve their livelihoods and prevent further economic hardship for their families and communities.
