In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, three university students lost their lives, and several others were injured after a BRTC double-decker bus became electrified upon touching a live power line in Udoykhali village of Gazipur's Sreepur upazila. The incident occurred around 10:30 AM in Telihati Union.

The deceased have been identified as Mozammel Hossain Nayeem (24), Mostakim Rahman Mahin (22), and Zubair Alam Sakib (22).

According to sources, approximately 460 students from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), located in Gazipur's Board Bazar area, were traveling to Matir Maya Eco Resort in Uttor Pelayed village for a picnic. They were traveling in six BRTC double-decker buses and three microbuses.

The buses diverted from the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway to a rural road leading to the resort. Upon reaching Udoykhali Bazaar, one of the double-decker buses came in contact with a low-hanging power line, causing the vehicle to become electrified. Several students suffered electrocution and were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Shreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Zainal Abedin confirmed the incident, stating, "Many students from the Islamic University of Technology were traveling in the BRTC double-decker. The tragic incident occurred when the bus touched the power line, resulting in the deaths of three students and injuries to others."
