Students of Titumir College have continued their protest for the fifth consecutive day, blocking the Mahakhali-Gulshan road to press for their seven-point demand, which includes the transformation of the college into a university. The demonstration began on Monday at 12:20 PM in front of the college gate, where students obstructed traffic using bamboo barricades.
Eyewitnesses reported that the students made announcements via loudspeakers, declaring that no vehicles except emergency services would be allowed to pass until their demands were met. The protest was initially scheduled to start at 11 AM, but it was delayed due to the observance of Saraswati Puja on the college campus. Protesters affirmed their commitment to continue the blockade until their demands were fulfilled.
On Sunday night, student leaders held a press conference to announce their schedule for Monday’s protest. According to their statement, they would observe a ‘Barasat Barricade to Dhaka North City’ program from 11 AM to 10 PM, affecting Mahakhali, Amtoli, Railgate, and Gulshan Link Road. Additionally, they reiterated their three-point demand, which includes official recognition of 'Titumir University' and the release of an academic calendar for the institution.
The movement initially started on Thursday when a group of students staged a hunger strike and road blockade in front of the main entrance of the campus, demanding immediate action on their proposed reforms.
