Gopalganj, January 17 — A trip to enjoy date palm sap turned fatal for three friends as their motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Dhaka-Khulna highway near Hiranyakandi in Kashiani upazila early Friday morning. The accident occurred near Sampan Highway Restaurant, claiming the lives of the three young men.
Two of the victims died instantly at the scene, while the third, critically injured, was rushed to the Kashiani Upazila Health Complex. Doctors there pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The deceased were identified as Bishal Nag (16), son of Babul Nag from Pona Kadirpara village; Dipu Das (15), son of Bishu Das from the same village; and Md. Hridoy Mridha (18), son of Monir Mridha from Pingolia village.
According to their families, the trio had left home at dawn to visit Kalinagar in Boalmari upazila, intending to savor fresh date palm sap. However, their journey was cut short when, while passing through Hiranyakandi, their motorcycle was struck by an unknown vehicle.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police, Md. Rakibuzzaman, confirmed the incident. He attributed the accident to heavy fog that severely reduced visibility along the Dhaka-Khulna highway, making the area particularly hazardous for motorists.
Police are currently investigating the accident, but the driver and the vehicle involved remain unidentified. The tragic loss has plunged the victims’ families and their local communities into mourning.
