Two youths have been arrested by police at Cox's Bazar beach with homemade firearms and ammunition. The incident took place on Monday, December 2, at around 11:15 AM near the Jhaukagan area, close to the Sugandha Point. The seized items included four locally-made guns and two 7.6 bore rifle cartridges.
The arrested individuals were identified as Iqbal Hossain Faisal (34), son of Mohammad Zokaria from Gorkaghata North Ghonarpur in Maheshkhali, and Mohammad Arman Hossain (34), son of Mohammad Abul Kalam from the Lamba Gona area in Chhoto Maheshkhali Union.
According to Mohammad Elias Khan, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox's Bazar Sadar police station, a tip-off regarding armed individuals at the Sugandha Point prompted an immediate police operation. Upon reaching the location, police noticed two suspicious youths who, upon seeing the authorities, attempted to flee the scene. After a brief chase, the suspects were apprehended.
A subsequent search of the bag they were carrying revealed the homemade guns and the rifle cartridges. Following their arrest, the police also discovered their motorcycle, which had been parked nearby, based on the suspects' confession.
The police are currently investigating where the firearms were obtained and their intended destination. The authorities aim to uncover the full details of the operation and any possible connections the suspects may have had with illegal arms trafficking.
The arrested individuals have been charged under the relevant laws, and further questioning is underway to determine the broader scope of their activities. The police have expressed confidence that further investigation will reveal the full extent of the crime.
