Onion Prices Decline Amid Increased Supply
Due to a rise in supply, onion prices have dropped by 10 taka per kilogram. Local onions are now selling at 130 taka per kilogram, while Indian onions range between 90–110 taka. Meanwhile, ginger is priced at 120–280 taka per kilogram, and garlic costs 240 taka. New potatoes have seen a significant drop of 40 taka, now priced at 100 taka per kilogram. However, older potatoes have increased by 10 taka, now selling at 80 taka per kilogram.
Fish Prices Remain High
Despite falling vegetable prices, Hilsa fish remains expensive. A kilogram of Hilsa weighing 500 grams costs 1,000 taka, while larger fish (700–800 grams) are priced at 1,500 taka. Hilsa weighing over a kilogram is being sold for 1,800 taka per kilogram. Other fish varieties such as Shing are priced at 350–450 taka, Rui at 350–450 taka, and Magur at 800–1,100 taka.
Meat and Egg Prices Steady with Minor Increases

Broiler chicken prices remain unchanged at 175–180 taka per kilogram, while Sonali chicken prices have risen by 10 taka, now selling for 310 taka per kilogram. Duck eggs cost 230 taka per dozen, while domestic chicken eggs are sold at 90 taka per four pieces.
Staple Goods and Edible Oils
Soybean oil (5 liters) is priced at 818 taka, lentils at 140 taka, mung beans at 180 taka, Miniket rice at 76–80 taka per kilogram, and Nazirshail rice at 75–82 taka per kilogram.
Market Insights
Traders attribute the price reductions to increased supply of winter vegetables and the arrival of new onions in the market. They anticipate further price decreases in the coming weeks. However, limited supply keeps fish and meat prices relatively high, creating a mixed outlook for consumers.
