The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for seven divisions, forecasting rainfall as a low-pressure system forms over the southwest Bay of Bengal. The weather department stated that the system could bring rain to various regions starting from Friday, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Saturday, December 21. The rain will likely continue through December 22, with cloudy skies expected even after the precipitation subsides.

Meteorologist Mohammad Omar Faruq explained that the low-pressure system is causing the expected rain, which may be moderate to heavy in intensity. Between 6 AM on Thursday and 6 AM on Monday, some areas in Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions could experience rainfall ranging from 11 to 22 millimeters per hour, with some places seeing as much as 44 to 88 millimeters.

He also mentioned that the rainfall is expected to reduce the amount of sunlight, which could lower daytime temperatures and intensify the feeling of cold. However, there is no significant risk of a cold wave at this time. The southern regions of the country, particularly in the southwest, are expected to experience the heaviest rainfall.

The central region, including Dhaka, will also receive rainfall, but the northern areas may see comparatively less precipitation. After the rainfall, the temperatures are expected to drop further around December 27, potentially increasing the severity of the cold weather. There may also be a chance of a cold wave affecting some parts of the country.

According to the forecast, the weather across the country will remain mostly dry with some intermittent cloud cover today, December 18. While daytime temperatures are expected to drop slightly, the nighttime temperature will remain almost unchanged. During the night and early morning hours, light to moderate fog is expected in some areas.

Looking ahead to Friday, light rain is anticipated in some parts of Khulna and Barishal divisions, which could lead to a slight decrease in daytime temperatures. Nighttime temperatures may see a slight increase. On Saturday, rain is expected to spread to seven divisions, with Rakhine excepted. These areas will experience light to moderate rain or rain with thunder. Daytime temperatures could drop by two to three degrees.

The department also recorded the lowest temperature of the day on Wednesday in Tetulia, Panchagarh, at 8.8°C. Dhaka recorded a minimum temperature of 17°C.
